Our Philosophy

At Thornbury Learning Centre, we believe that learning is a lifelong process in which the children, parents, early childhood educators, the environment, previous experience, individual style and opportunity all play an important role.

We acknowledge the importance of play and it is essential to every area of children’s development and to their health, well-being and happiness. Play provides a fundamental learning process for children, allowing them to expand their skills, knowledge and understanding of the world. We aim to develop the “whole” child by providing a wide range of choice and by providing play experiences that are based on children’s interest’s and level of development.

We believe that children are successful, competent and capable learners and try to equip children with ‘life skills’ through: daily interactions, a variety of developmentally appropriate materials and equipment, and values based social equality, shared responsibility, self discipline, mutual respect and trust and cooperation. This is facilitated by a team of committed early childhood educators who focus on providing learning within a nurturing, supportive, secure and loving environment.
